Blog 5: My future job
Hi everybody :) Today Im going to talk about my future job.
I am majoring in sociology and near to do my thesis. I would like my thesis to be about the housing deficit in some communes of Santiago. My interest in this area of study (urban sociology) and work comes from my personal experience as an urbanite. I have always lived in Santiago, first in San Bernardo, then in El Bosque, and now in San Miguel. Although these communes are different from each other, they are all peripheral to the center of santiago, although San Miguel is closer than the others. The way in which the prevailing centralism at a regional level is also expressed within cities and their communes has always caught my attention. In this sense, I consider that the planification of the city of Santiago is deliberately segregatory, discriminatory (for people with different abilities, for example), patriarchal, not environmentally sustainable, and inefficient in terms of transportation and connectivity. The consequences of these social problems do not affect every commune the same way, leaving the most vulnerable communes more exposed, and thus revealing how the urban planification prioritizes the most privileged ones.
In this sense, I would like to work in some municipality or in some
urban observatory that influences the discussion on urban and housing
public policies. I would prefer to work in the field rather than in an office. I would also like to travel to know the different realities of the cities around the world. About the salary, I would like to earn enough money to have a place of my own, to be able to travel and eat well, and to witness good concerts.

wooow! I really always it has drawn my attention the topic of "the planification of the city". I lived in pudahuel sur and now live in Independencia, almost in "La Chimba", the history of the places is very interesting. Have you studied the planification of cemeteries?
